With the release of the fourth developer beta of iOS 26, developers have unearthed a curious phrase within the settings menu, subtly hinting that Apple may be preparing to unveil the long-rumored HomePod model equipped with a display.
Within this beta, a regional setting for the HomePod includes the following message: “Your HomePod won’t be able to show you the local weather, time, or respond to Siri requests about your area.”
The use of the word “show” has sparked considerable interest, as none of the currently available HomePod models feature a display—rendering them incapable of displaying any information. This linguistic clue has led many to speculate that Apple is indeed laying the groundwork at the system level for a new HomePod with visual output capabilities.
Rumors surrounding a display-equipped HomePod have circulated for some time, with industry sources suggesting that Apple has been developing a smart home control hub—potentially merging the design of an iPad-like screen with the acoustic engineering of a HomePod. The envisioned device would offer an integrated interface for Siri voice commands and HomeKit or Matter-enabled smart home controls.
According to previous leaks, this upcoming device is expected to feature a nearly square-shaped display and support a suite of native Apple applications such as Apple Music, Weather, Calendar, Photos, and News. Users would be able to interact with the device via touch or voice, creating a seamless and immersive smart home experience.
However, reports also indicate that the release timeline for this display-equipped HomePod could be influenced by the development progress of the new Siri powered by “Apple Intelligence.” Apple aims to transform Siri into a more intuitive and intelligent assistant, capable of natural interactions. As a result, this product is envisioned not merely as a smart speaker, but as a next-generation home hub that harmoniously blends voice and visual interactivity.
