Apple has officially confirmed that iOS 26’s Digital ID feature will support the addition of passports, allowing users to store their passports directly within the Wallet app. This functionality is expected to roll out in late 2025.
On its iOS 26 feature page, Apple updated the language regarding the release of Digital IDs, avoiding a precise timeline and instead noting only that the feature will arrive “later this year” and, at least initially, will be limited to U.S. passports.
The Digital ID capability builds on the Wallet app’s existing driver’s license integration, enabling users to present a digital passport at U.S. customs checkpoints in place of a physical document.
Beyond travel, a passport stored in the Wallet app could also serve as identity and age verification in supported apps, websites, or even retail stores, reducing the need to carry physical credentials.

At present, Apple has not disclosed whether this feature will eventually expand to other countries. For example, in the United Kingdom, adult websites are subject to strict age verification requirements; if Apple extends Digital ID support there, users could potentially rely on a digital passport for compliance.
Nevertheless, in most countries and regions, physical passports will remain essential. Even in the United States, Apple clarified that digital passports will be recognized only at customs checkpoints, meaning that travelers outside the U.S. will still need to carry their physical documents.
