The newly unveiled iPhone 17 may bear a close resemblance to the iPhone 16 in terms of outward design, but it introduces a host of significant upgrades. Powered by the new A19 processor, the device now supports ProMotion display technology with refresh rates of up to 120Hz, enhanced front and rear camera systems, and improved battery life.
On the display front, Apple highlights a peak outdoor brightness of 3,000 nits, ensuring clear visibility even under intense sunlight. The 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display supports refresh rates ranging from 120Hz down to 1Hz, enabling always-on display functionality while conserving power. The bezels are slimmer than ever, and protection is reinforced by Ceramic Shield 2 glass, which offers up to three times the scratch resistance of its predecessor.
The A19 chip adopts a 2+4 core architecture with two performance cores and four efficiency cores, paired with a five-core GPU supporting hardware-accelerated ray tracing, mesh shading, and MetalFX upscaling. Display performance has been significantly boosted compared to previous iPhones, while AI tasks are handled by a 16-core Neural Engine. Battery life has also been extended—providing up to eight additional hours of video playback compared with the iPhone 16—and fast charging delivers 50% capacity in just 20 minutes.

The camera system maintains a dual-lens configuration, featuring upgraded 48MP wide and ultra-wide sensors. The wide-angle camera can output 12MP telephoto shots, while the ultra-wide supports 12MP macro photography, offering greater flexibility for creative shooting.
The front-facing camera receives its most dramatic upgrade yet. Featuring an 18MP square-format sensor with a 1:1 aspect ratio, it allows users to capture both vertical and horizontal shots without rotating the device. It also introduces Center Stage functionality, familiar from iPad and MacBook, keeping subjects centered within the frame—perfect for selfies, live streaming, or one-handed video capture.
The iPhone 17 is available in black, purple, blue, green, and white, with storage starting at 256GB and capped at 512GB. Preorders open today, with general availability beginning on September 19. Pricing starts at $799 USD.
