Facebook Marketplace has reached its tenth anniversary. To mark the moment, Meta has launched a standalone app called Seller. The tool hands sellers and small businesses professional-grade storefront management.
Seller gathers several features into one interface. It combines Meta AI listing generation, a unified message inbox, inventory management, and analytics. As a result, sellers can run their Facebook sales much like a dedicated e-commerce platform.
Meta AI Turns a Photo Into a Full Listing
Listing an item used to demand real effort. Sellers typed titles by hand, wrote descriptions, and checked market prices repeatedly. The new Seller App leans on Meta AI to strip away that friction.
Smart AI Listing
Now a seller simply uploads a product photo. Meta AI then recognises the item type automatically. It also fills in the name, a detailed description, a category suggestion, and a reasonable suggested market price.
Bulk Listing
Some sellers juggle a wide range of goods. For them, the system supports uploading many items at once. Therefore, nobody has to build each record one by one.
A Dashboard and a Product-Specific Inbox
Seller also bundles tightly integrated management tools. Together, they help sellers keep a firm grip on operations.
To-Do Dashboard
The home screen surfaces whatever needs immediate attention. It flags items awaiting shipment, unanswered buyer messages, and slow sellers that may need a price cut. Meanwhile, it shows overall sales performance at a glance.
Unified Inbox
The app sorts buyer enquiries by specific product. Open one item, and every interested buyer’s thread appears together. Consequently, the old chaos of scattered Messenger chats and missed messages largely disappears.
Performance Insights
Sellers also gain hard numbers. The app reports views, click-through rates, enquiry volume, and units sold. In turn, sellers can see which products draw the most interest.
Full Sync With Facebook Marketplace
Seller and Facebook Marketplace stay completely in sync. Any item created in the Seller App appears automatically on Marketplace. Existing listings, message history, and review records also migrate seamlessly.
Casual users need not worry, though. They can keep using the native Facebook app for the occasional second-hand sale, untouched by the new tool.
Rollout and Platform Support
Meta is releasing Seller in the United States first. From today, iOS and Android users aged 18 and over can download it. Meanwhile, Meta is testing a web version and plans further updates based on seller feedback.
From Digital Flea Market to Professional E-Commerce
The Seller App signals a deeper shift. Facebook Marketplace is moving from a second-hand exchange toward a full commercial ecosystem.
Meta’s own figures explain the ambition. Marketplace now counts more than one billion monthly active users. Every month, sellers worldwide post around 430 million items.
That scale has long drawn professional sellers, used-car dealers, and small retailers. Previously, those sellers wrestled with floods of private messages inside a simple C2C interface. The Seller App fills that gap in Meta’s toolkit for merchants.
A Double-Edged Change
Yet the shift cuts both ways. eBay and Etsy walked this path before. As a platform tilts toward professional sellers, it earns more advertising and commercial revenue for Meta.
However, the same tilt can dilute the neighbourly, treasure-hunt feel that made Marketplace appealing. Ordinary users clearing out old belongings may start to feel sidelined by commercial listings.
Part of a Broader Strategy
Meta paired today’s launch with a free Facebook Verified identity badge. The overall strategy looks clear. On one side, AI verification confirms that buyers and sellers are real people and deters fraud.
On the other side, Seller and Meta AI lower the barrier to listing and running a shop. Whether this combination lets Meta carve a larger slice of decentralised social commerce, against Amazon and other giants, is well worth watching.
