Revamped "Start" Menu Interface
Microsoft’s routine security updates released in January have precipitated a myriad of complications within Windows 11. Notably, Outlook Classic—a cornerstone of professional communication for both individuals and enterprises—has been plagued by severe instability, including total application freezes that impede essential workflows.
A thorough investigation by Microsoft identified the fundamental cause within an underlying modification to cloud storage mechanisms. This flaw is not confined to Outlook; any application attempting to commit data to Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox is susceptible to the same catastrophic failure.
Due to the intricate nature of potential temporary workarounds, Microsoft declined to publish an interim manual fix. Instead, the corporation initially advised users to either migrate to alternative email clients or uninstall the problematic January update—a maneuver confirmed to restore Outlook’s functionality.
In a decisive move, Microsoft has now deployed an emergency out-of-band (OOB) update to resolve the crisis. Departing from standard protocol where OOB patches require manual installation, this specific update will be disseminated automatically via Windows Update, underscoring the pervasive and critical nature of the disruption. Below are the specific update identifiers and corresponding builds for various Windows iterations:
| OS Version | KB Article | New Build Number |
| Windows 11 25H2/24H2 | KB5078127 | Build 26200.7628 / 26100.7628 |
| Windows 11 23H2 | KB5078132 | Build 22631.6495 |
| Windows 10 22H2/21H2 | KB5078129 | Build 19045.6812 / 19044.6812 |
| Windows Server 2025 | KB5078135 | Build 26100.32236 |
| Windows Server 2022 | KB5078136 | Build 20348.4651 |
| Windows Server 2019 | KB5078131 | Build 17763.8281 |
If you rely on Outlook Classic or utilize cloud storage services such as OneDrive for data preservation, it is imperative to ensure these updates are applied. Neglecting this may result in synchronization failures or the irretrievable loss of data during cloud save operations. As these patches are delivered automatically, please verify that your system update functionality is not currently paused by navigating to the Windows Update section within your system settings.
