Previously introduced in beta for Xbox Insiders under the name Copilot for Gaming, Microsoft’s AI-powered digital assistant is now launching broadly as Gaming Copilot on Windows PCs and the Xbox App. Designed to support players with instant access to game guides, account information, and personalized recommendations, the service aims to enhance the overall gaming experience.
Gaming Copilot will be available to players aged 18 and older. On Windows PCs, it can be accessed directly through the built-in chat interface of the PC Game Bar, while the Xbox App version will roll out in October on both Android and iOS. However, the service will not be available in China.
Functioning like a modernized, real-time game help hotline, Gaming Copilot enables players to summon an overlay chat window during gameplay, where they can type or speak their questions directly. The assistant analyzes screenshots and the player’s current in-game activity to provide tailored hints, strategies, or guidance.
Beyond gameplay support, Gaming Copilot can also handle Xbox account-related queries and recommend suitable purchases from the store, helping players discover additional content.
In terms of interaction, the assistant supports voice conversations, with a Push-to-Talk hotkey on PC for quick activation, or as a movable widget that can be pinned anywhere on the screen for on-the-fly assistance. On the Xbox App, a dedicated microphone button is integrated to enable longer conversations.
Microsoft has emphasized that it will continue gathering user feedback to refine Gaming Copilot’s responses, making them more aligned with individual preferences and playstyles.
The assistant has also been tested on Windows-based handheld gaming devices. With the upcoming October 16 launch of the ROG Xbox Ally, developed in partnership with ASUS, Microsoft expects Gaming Copilot to extend AI-driven gameplay assistance to a new generation of handheld consoles.
