NVIDIA would issue its final feature update for the GTX 7XX, 9XX, and 10XX series graphics cards in October 2025. Thereafter, NVIDIA will only provide security updates for a period of three years, addressing vulnerabilities but offering no further functional enhancementsβmeaning that even if new games are released, these older GPUs will not receive performance optimizations.
In a related but distinct development, NVIDIA also announced its intention to continue supporting Windows 10 users with security updates through October 2026, following Microsoftβs plan to officially end Windows 10βs lifecycle in October 2025.
Typically, once an operating system reaches end-of-life, third-party software vendors begin phasing out support as well. Without active security backing from the OS developer, ongoing updates from software vendors alone cannot guarantee sufficient protection.
Accordingly, NVIDIAβs approach is to extend Game Ready driver updatesβincluding both functional and security patchesβfor Windows 10 users until October 2026. After this date, all support will cease.
If you’re currently running Windows 10 alongside an NVIDIA GPU (including GTX 20XX, 30XX, 40XX, or 50XX series), it would be wise to consider upgrading your operating system. Going forward, only Windows 11 users will receive driver packages that incorporate new features and game optimizations.
Continuing to use Windows 10 without updated Game Ready drivers means youβll miss out on performance tuning for newly released titles. Moreover, should existing games encounter GPU-related compatibility issues, only the game developersβnot NVIDIAβwill be responsible for issuing fixes, as driver-level support will no longer be available.
And beyond October 2026, even security updates will be discontinued. Persisting with NVIDIA drivers on an unsupported Windows 10 system could expose users to serious security risks. Given these considerations, transitioning to Windows 11 is not just advisableβit is essential.
