According to the latest reports, OpenAI is introducing a new service called “ChatGPT Login,” which allows users to sign in to third-party websites using their ChatGPT credentials—similar to existing mechanisms offered by Google or Facebook. This initiative aims to establish an AI-centered subscription ecosystem around OpenAI, enabling companies that adopt this login feature to pass on the cost of using OpenAI’s models directly to end users.
Under this new framework, when users log into third-party services powered by OpenAI models using their ChatGPT accounts, the API fees that would normally be paid by the service provider will instead be deducted from the user’s ChatGPT account quota.
Specifically, free-tier users may send approximately ten queries to GPT-5 every five hours, with a portion of these query allowances offsetting the API costs incurred by partner startups.
When free users reach their usage limit while interacting with a third-party service, the system will prompt them to upgrade to a paid plan. This model is appealing to infrequent users who rarely reach their capacity limit, while simultaneously helping cash-strapped startups reduce operational costs tied to high API expenses.
Industry observers note that this move underscores OpenAI’s ambition to emulate the influence of tech giants such as Apple, Google, and Facebook—extending its reach into every facet of consumers’ digital lives. According to The Information, OpenAI has informed investors that by 2030 it expects to generate roughly $110 billion in revenue indirectly from non-paying users.
However, the policy may disrupt startups that charge customers based on usage, as users will now pay OpenAI directly for model consumption rather than paying the service providers themselves.
The introduction of ChatGPT Login signifies OpenAI’s evolution from a pure AI model provider into a platform-level ecosystem operator. If successful, this model could position OpenAI at the very heart of the AI application market while lowering the entry barrier for smaller developers.
As AI applications continue to proliferate, this initiative could reshape the commercial landscape of the entire AI services market and further solidify OpenAI’s dominance in the generative AI domain—a development well worth close attention.
