At the end of 2024, OpenAI unveiled its premium ChatGPT Pro subscription priced at $200 per month. Despite the steep cost, a significant number of users found value in the enhanced quotas and early access to cutting-edge models, ultimately choosing to subscribe to the service.
Following OpenAI’s lead, both Anthropic’s Claude and Google’s Gemini introduced similar high-tier subscription plans, with monthly fees reaching $200 or even $250. Now, unexpectedly, the AI-powered search engine Perplexity has joined the ranks, launching its own premium subscription model.
The new “Perplexity Max” subscription is now available via the web and iOS platforms, priced at $200 per month. Subscribers gain unlimited access to Labs, the company’s proxy creation tools capable of generating spreadsheets, presentations, and web applications.
Perplexity also promises that Max subscribers will receive priority access to upcoming features, including early use of Comet—a next-generation browser designed by Perplexity to seamlessly integrate AI capabilities, enabling users to receive intelligent assistance while browsing the web.
In addition, Max users will be granted preferential access to advanced AI models. Through strategic partnerships, Perplexity offers models developed by Anthropic and OpenAI, and Max subscribers will be the first to experiment with these state-of-the-art systems.
Nevertheless, the overall appeal of the Perplexity Max subscription may not rival that of ChatGPT Pro. For many users, the perceived value of Perplexity’s offerings remains relatively modest. Still, the company continues to provide its more affordable $20/month Pro plan for those seeking a more accessible entry point.
