Seagate has unveiled its next-generation edge-enterprise storage solutions — the Seagate Exos 4U100 and 4U74 JBOD systems — just ahead of the SC25 Supercomputing Conference. Designed for data centers and edge environments, these flagship platforms deliver unprecedented density, with the Exos 4U100 offering an extraordinary 3.2 PB of storage within a single high-density chassis, meeting the immense data demands of generative AI and distributed storage architectures.
As generative AI reshapes how enterprises create and manage information, Seagate cites IDC research showing that 78% of organizations are producing new types of content, driving explosive growth in storage requirements.
Both the Exos 4U100 and 4U74 systems adopt a cutting-edge SAS-4 JBOD architecture and integrate Seagate’s latest Mozaic HAMR technology, making them ideal for petabyte-scale AI and machine-learning workloads — from frequent model checkpoints to long-term archival, continuous data ingestion, and edge analytics.
Melyssa Banda, Seagate’s Senior Vice President of Edge Storage and Services, emphasized that these systems are designed not merely to store data, but to help enterprises preserve more of it for longer, enabling them to derive future value from their information assets.
In terms of hardware design, Seagate highlights operational efficiency and deployment flexibility:
- High-density capacity: The Exos 4U100 delivers 3.2 PB in a single chassis and supports current and next-generation hard drives.
- Enhanced energy efficiency: Cooling performance is improved by 70%, while power consumption is reduced by 30% compared to the previous generation — a critical advantage for energy-constrained edge sites.
- Flexible deployment: Supports SAS or SATA configurations, optimized for diverse rack depths, and features a fully tool-less design to simplify servicing.
- Enterprise-grade security: Includes Secure Boot, Seagate Secure certification, Redfish management capabilities, and compliance with data-sovereignty requirements.
The Seagate Exos 4U100 and 4U74 JBOD systems are expected to become available next quarter through Seagate’s global network of authorized partners. The company will also showcase the new platforms in person at the SC25 conference, held from November 17 to 20.
