Why It Matters
SiteGuard Server Edition is a host-based web application firewall from EG Secure Solutions. It sits directly on web servers, so a breach puts the server itself at risk. The JVN advisory JVN states that: “the vulnerability has been confirmed to be exploited in the wild.”
How the Attack Works
The flaw sits in the product’s statistics feature, which is enabled by default. An attacker with low-level local access can inject OS commands through it. As a result, JVN warns that “an attacker may be able to execute arbitrary OS commands with root or SYSTEM privileges.”
Exploitation status
Both JPCERT/CC and the vendor confirm active exploitation. EG Secure says “exploitation has already been confirmed,” but it has not shared attack details. The flaw scores CVSS 8.5 under version 4.0.
Notably, the vendor alerted customers with direct support contracts on September 29, 2026. Public disclosure followed about two weeks later, so some servers may have been attacked before most admins heard of the flaw.
Affected Versions
- SiteGuard Server Edition Ver2.20 and later, when the statistics feature is on
- IIS editions from Ver3.10 to Ver4.00 Update 4 are not affected
Patch and Mitigation Steps
- Update to Ver8.00 Update 5 for Apache httpd, Nginx and IIS.
- Update to Ver7.00 Update 6 for Apache httpd and Nginx on FreeBSD.
- If you cannot upgrade, apply the vendor patch, which also covers end-of-life versions.
Before patching, save the diagnostic information from the admin console. The vendor’s SiteGuard security alert warns that updating may erase traces of an attack. Given that this SiteGuard Server Edition vulnerability is exploited in the wild, admins should act now.
