Microsoft has announced the integration of OpenAI’s Sora video generation technology into its Bing service, although, for now, it is exclusively available through the mobile version of Bing.
Previously, Sora’s video generation capabilities were reserved for paying OpenAI users. This marks the first instance in which the technology is being offered to the public free of charge via its incorporation into Bing Mobile.
While access is complimentary, certain limitations apply. Users may generate up to ten videos at no cost, with a maximum of three videos queued at any one time. Beyond this threshold, the creation of additional videos requires the expenditure of 100 Microsoft Rewards points per video.
These Microsoft Rewards points can be earned through regular use of Bing’s search services. This collaboration with OpenAI can be seen as part of Microsoft’s broader strategy to boost engagement with its Bing platform by leveraging the appeal of Sora’s advanced generative capabilities.
Additionally, users may choose to download their generated videos or share them directly to social media platforms. The videos will be retained on Microsoft’s servers for a maximum of 90 days. At present, users cannot adjust the duration of generated content, and output is limited to a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio. However, Microsoft has announced plans to introduce support for horizontal 16:9 video formats in future updates.
