The Browser Company has recently introduced a dedicated subscription plan for its newly developed AI-powered browser, Diaβa fresh creation that emerged after the company abandoned its previous project, the Arc browser.
Priced at $20 per month, the Dia Pro subscription offers unlimited access to AI chat and advanced technical features. In contrast, free-tier Dia users face usage quotas for these capabilities, and must upgrade to Dia Pro once their allocation is exhausted. While the company has yet to disclose the exact limits distinguishing Dia Free from Dia Pro, CEO Josh Miller noted that Dia will remain free for those who use its AI functions only a few times a weekβimplying that the actual quota is relatively modest.
Earlier this week, some users noticed that The Browser Company quietly published a Dia Pro webpage before swiftly taking it down, likely because the subscription service was not yet ready. Now, however, Dia users can subscribe directly through the settings page.
The companyβs earlier product, the much-hyped Arc browser, garnered a devoted following but ultimately failed to gain widespread adoption. This prompted The Browser Company to discontinue Arc and start anew with Dia.
Competition in the browser market is currently fierce, with traditional players like Chrome and Microsoft Edge racing to integrate AI technologies. Meanwhile, Perplexity AI has launched its own AI-driven browser, Comet, and reports suggest that OpenAI is preparing to release a browser of its own.
Although Dia has received generally positive feedback, it still operates under a waitlist system, requiring users to apply and be approved before gaining access. This approach, already unpopular when Arc employed it, risks repeating past frustrations. Given the browserβs otherwise conventional feature set, it remains to be seen whether the industryβs reliance on such scarcity-driven marketing tactics can still lead to success.
