If you’re a die-hard Windows 10 user dreading the impending end-of-support deadline, fear not! Microsoft has unveiled the Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, offering a safety net for those who aren’t quite ready to make the leap to Windows 11.
This paid program will provide critical and important security updates for eligible Windows 10 devices, ensuring your system remains protected against emerging threats. While the program doesn’t include new features, design changes, or general support, it offers a crucial security blanket for individuals and organizations clinging to their beloved Windows 10 installations.
But there’s a catch: to be eligible for ESU, your device must be running Windows 10, version 22H2. And be prepared to open your wallet, as the subscription service comes with an annual fee of $61 USD per device for the first year, doubling each subsequent year for a maximum of three years.
However, there’s good news for cloud enthusiasts! ESU is available at no additional cost for Windows 10 virtual machines running in Windows 365 or Azure Virtual Desktop. Additionally, Windows 10 endpoints connecting to Windows 365 Cloud PCs are entitled to ESU for up to three years with an active Windows 365 subscription license.
So, if you’re not quite ready to say goodbye to Windows 10, ESU might be your saving grace. Just remember to weigh the costs and benefits before taking the plunge.
