In the latest release to the Windows Insider Dev Channel, Microsoft has unveiled the first preview build of Windows 11 version 25H2. While the update currently introduces only a limited set of new features, one notable addition—previously teased by Microsoft—is the deeper integration of password managers.
At present, the first to support this feature is 1Password. With this integration, Windows Security will utilize passkeys stored within the 1Password vault. Any new passkeys generated will also default to being saved in 1Password, rather than being stored natively in Windows 11.
To experience this functionality, users must upgrade to Windows 11 Dev Build 26200.5670 (KB5060838) and install the beta version of 1Password. It is anticipated that support for this integration may also be extended to Windows 11 version 24H2 through a future cumulative update.
Additional updates and improvements in this build include:
- Resolved an issue that could cause the File Explorer Home screen to crash, including a specific crash on initial launch.
- Fixed a bug that resulted in duplicate entries when interacting with folders pinned to the Start Menu.
- Addressed an input disruption caused by unusually frequent crashes of
ctfmon.exein recent preview builds. - Corrected a memory leak associated with slideshow functionality on the lock screen, which could degrade system performance over time.
- Restored the original Windows 11 startup sound, replacing an unintended fallback to the Windows Vista version.
- Enhanced dialog box text scaling, resulting in clearer, more legible pop-up messages.
- Resolved an issue where File Explorer would not retain customized view settings, such as icon arrangement on the desktop.
Some users attempting to upgrade to this new build may encounter installation failures with error 0x80070005, followed by an automatic rollback. Microsoft is actively investigating the issue. As a potential workaround, users are encouraged to navigate to Settings > System > Recovery and attempt to apply the update again through Windows Update.
