This week, Microsoft began pushing the July 2026 monthly security update to all supported devices. Under normal circumstances, Windows 10/11 receives the update automatically and prompts users to restart to complete installation. This time, however, certain Dell devices running Intel drivers suffer from a serious compatibility problem. As a result, Microsoft has applied a cloud-side safeguard hold that blocks the rollout to those machines. Even users who manually click “Check for updates” will therefore not see the patch.
What Microsoft’s Support Document Says
According to the known issue entry on the Windows release health dashboard, the trouble traces back to KB5095093. That optional non-security preview update shipped on March 23, 2026. After installing it, some Dell devices may show a yellow exclamation mark on the “Intel Innovation Platform Framework Processor Participant” driver in Device Manager. In certain cases, affected devices may also exhibit changes in performance, power consumption, or general system behavior.
Investigation confirmed the root cause. The Intel driver is incompatible with the brand-new Windows USB-C Connection Manager interface that KB5095093 introduced. Consequently, Microsoft is now working with Dell to stop affected models from installing the update and hitting the compatibility problem.
Do Not Install the Update Manually
For now, Microsoft has paused the rollout to affected Dell devices running Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. Meanwhile, the company is collaborating with both Dell and Intel on a resolution. A corrected update or driver may arrive within the next few days. Once it does, affected users will receive the July 2026 monthly security update again.
Here we also want to issue a special warning to users who habitually download offline installer packages. Offline installation bypasses compatibility detection entirely. Therefore, a “successful” install could still trigger the compatibility problems described above. Please refrain from manually downloading and installing the update for the time being. Furthermore, if Windows Update does not offer KB5095093 or any subsequent update, that absence means the issue on your device remains unresolved.
