Google has unveiled an experimental virtual try-on app in the United States, named Doppl, which empowers users to create personalized digital avatars through advanced artificial intelligence. These avatars allow individuals to virtually “try on” a variety of fashion styles and even generate animated videos that simulate the experience of wearing the garments in motion. The app, currently available on both iOS and Android, is developed by the Google Labs team and is poised to become an innovative tool for exploring personal fashion expression.
Unlike previous virtual try-on features from Google that were limited to showcasing clothing on generic models, Doppl’s standout feature is its ability to generate a bespoke digital twin from a single full-body photograph. Users can then try on any outfit drawn from a wide array of image sources—be it streetwear snapshots, fashion looks seen on social media, or original photographs of apparel.
Beyond static image previews, Doppl incorporates AI-powered motion synthesis, offering dynamic visualizations of how clothing would look when worn in real-life movements. Users can save multiple outfit simulations, revisit their style experiments at any time, and share their fashion creations across social media platforms.
According to Google, Doppl builds upon the virtual fitting technology previously introduced in Google Shopping, now offering a more immersive and intimate experience via a standalone application. However, the company emphasizes that the app remains in its experimental phase, and while the functionality is promising, accuracy and realism are still undergoing refinement.
At present, Doppl is available exclusively in the United States. Google has yet to announce plans for broader international rollout. Nevertheless, the app’s fusion of AI and personalized fashion showcases the immense potential of this technology, marking a significant step forward in the convergence of style and innovation.
