Ddos TorrentFreak reported that Russia wants to block an application by blocking 13.5 million Amazon IP addresses. This application is called Zello. Zello is an instant intercom app that allows you to chat privately with friends or join open channels for group chats. The group supports up to 2500 people. It was famous in August 2017 for being used by rescue volunteers of Hurricane Harvey to coordinate rescue work, but the Russian government wants to block this application because it is considered to challenge the authority of the government.
According to the recently enacted laws, services like Zello need to be registered with the government, require the storage of Russian user data in Russia, store user communication content for six months and metadata for three years, and encryption services also require sharing of keys with law enforcement agencies.
According to the report, in order to completely block the Zello Russian regulators, ISPs are required to block 15 million IP addresses, of which approximately 13.5 million belong to the cloud giant Amazon. If it is true, this requirement can be extremely extreme.
