Developers move to GitLab after GitHub was acquired by Microsoft

Ddos June 6, 2018 1 minute read

After Microsoft announced its $7.5 billion acquisition of GitHub, many developers were uneasy and began looking for alternatives. GitLab took this opportunity to add more developers to open source projects and educational institutions in order to attract more developers to announce that the high-level self-hosted GitLab Ultimate program and hosted Glod project will be free.

GitLab CEO Sid Sijbrandij said: “It has been crazy in the last twenty-four hours. We are seeing thousands switching, tweeting about it. There is at least a 10 times increase than the usual number of people switching to GitLab.”

This move has attracted a large number of developers to join, GitLab received more than 14300 independent visitors after the GitHub press release, these developers have opened more than 100,000 new libraries on GitLab.com.
