At the recent Made by Google event in New York, Google unveiled the Pixel 10 series, Pixel Watch 4, and Pixel Buds 2a. Keen-eyed attendees, however, also noticed what appeared to be a new smart speaker, discreetly showcased on-site. According to Android Headlines, the company is preparing to launch a next-generation Google Home Speaker integrated with Gemini AI services, alongside an expanded lineup of Nest-branded cameras and doorbells.
This marks Google’s most significant overhaul of its smart home ecosystem since the last Nest refresh several years ago. With higher-resolution imaging and AI-powered features, the company aims to deliver a more secure, intuitive, and convenient home experience.
The new Google Home Speaker will replace Google Assistant with Gemini AI, featuring Gemini Live and Learn with Gemini integration. It will also support sound sensing, capable of detecting when a user opens a door, as well as recognizing urgent events such as glass breaking or smoke alarms, delivering real-time alerts. Despite its compact size, the speaker promises 360-degree surround audio with balanced sound quality, while also offering seamless integration with the Google TV Streamer.
The third-generation Nest Cam Indoor introduces new finishes—Snow, Berry, and Hazel—but its most notable upgrade is the jump to 2K HDR resolution, up from the 1080p limit of the 2021 model. It now supports up to 6x digital zoom and cropping, making it easier for users to focus on critical areas such as a crib or entryway. It can also locally store up to one hour of recordings to mitigate Wi-Fi disruptions and includes a 3-hour event preview feature with quick 10-second video clips.
The second-generation Nest Cam Outdoor, currently available only in a wired version, comes in Snow and Hazel, with certain finishes offered exclusively through the Google Store. Functionality mirrors the indoor model, with 2K HDR recording, 3-hour previews, and on-device backup storage, making it suitable for monitoring driveways, garages, or outdoor spaces.
Meanwhile, the new Nest Doorbell (wired version) also upgrades to 2K video and introduces finishes in Snow, Hazel, and Linen, catering to different architectural styles. Like the updated Nest Cam, it supports zooming, event previews, and local storage in case of Wi-Fi outages.
All new Nest devices will feature a Daily Summaries AI capability, where Gemini AI compiles a concise digest of daily events, helping users quickly review important activity without combing through hours of footage.
In tandem, Google will rebrand its Nest Aware subscription as Google Home Premium, with a new tier called Google Home Premium Advanced. Pricing has yet to be revealed, but the service is expected to integrate deeply with the capabilities of Google’s latest smart home hardware.
