According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is quietly laying the groundwork to enter the home security market, developing high-endurance, AI-powered smart cameras and doorbells aimed at competing directly with established players like Amazon’s Ring and Google Nest.
One of the standout features of Apple’s camera is its exceptional battery life—designed to operate continuously for several months, and potentially up to a year, on a single charge—significantly reducing the need for frequent maintenance.
Equipped with built-in facial recognition and infrared sensors, the device can instantly identify household members and integrate seamlessly with home automation systems. For instance, it could automatically play a personalized music playlist when a specific person enters a room, or turn off lights and appliances upon detecting that the occupant has left, blending security with a personalized living experience.
Rumors of an Apple smart doorbell with Face ID first surfaced late last year, suggesting the ability to authenticate visitors through facial recognition and integrate deeply with the Apple Home app—offering features like visitor logs and temporary access permissions. The addition of a smart camera to these plans signals that Apple’s push into home security is steadily materializing.
Apple’s smart home ecosystem has been expanding beyond the current HomePod and Apple TV lineup, with reports of a “screen-equipped HomePod” expected next year and a tabletop smart display with a robotic arm slated for release in 2027.
If the camera and doorbell products come to fruition, they could form a comprehensive “Apple Smart Home Security System,” enhancing user loyalty through tighter ecosystem integration. The home security market is currently dominated by Amazon’s Ring and Google Nest, but Apple’s strengths—privacy protection, device integration, and ecosystem synergy—could help it stand out. iCloud-secured storage, end-to-end encryption, and low-latency device streaming would reinforce trust in video privacy.
Furthermore, Apple’s signature hardware design and its seamless hardware-software integration could make its security products more naturally blend into home environments while working flawlessly with iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
As AI, robotics, and smart home devices converge, Apple’s “walled garden” is evolving into a complete home ecosystem. Moving beyond entertainment control into security, Apple is positioning itself not just as a device maker, but as the central hub of the modern smart home. Should these new products launch as planned, they would represent a direct challenge to Amazon and Google—potentially unlocking a powerful new growth engine for Apple.
