In iOS 26, Apple has introduced a new feature within the Wallet app that allows users to securely store the full details of their physical bank cards. This includes the cardholder’s name, card number, expiration date, and security code.
Previously, many users opted to store their credit card details in password managers for convenience, enabling autofill during online payments. However, keeping full card information in a password manager also carries certain security risks.
By contrast, saving these details directly in Apple Wallet offers a higher degree of protection, giving users the ability to securely view their credit card information when needed, or autofill payment details on websites, without having to locate the physical card.
Apple explains this feature as follows:
“Your full card number, expiration date, and security code are encrypted and stored in your iCloud Keychain. They are visible only to you and are not used for Apple Pay transactions.”
It is important to note that Apple Pay transactions still require adding a linked payment card and are unrelated to this feature. The Wallet app’s new function is designed solely for securely storing and retrieving physical card information for later reference or manual entry, not for direct Apple Pay payments.
How to add physical card details in iOS 26:
- Update to iOS 26.
- Open the Wallet app and select any saved card.
- Tap the menu in the upper-right corner and choose Card Details.
- Select Card Information → Add Physical Card Information.
- Manually enter the details as prompted.
The information added will correspond to the virtual Apple Pay card already in use, but users can now revisit these saved details whenever they need to complete an online payment by manually entering the stored credentials.
