In October 2025, Microsoft officially ended security update support for Windows 10 version 22H2. Users who still need to operate this system are advised to enroll in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program to continue receiving essential security patches.
At the same time, Microsoft’s update mechanism automatically detects whether a user’s current version has reached the end of support. If so, the Windows Update page will display a message indicating that the version is no longer supported.
However, it appears that Microsoft’s verification process for these notifications was not thoroughly implemented. As a result, systems running Windows 10 LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel) editions—still officially supported—and PCs that have already registered for ESU may erroneously display a message stating that support has ended.
In its official support documentation, Microsoft acknowledged the issue, stating:
“The message indicating that your version of Windows is no longer supported may appear incorrectly in the update settings page.”

To resolve this, the company has deployed a quick cloud-based rollback fix, which corrects the affected policy remotely. The problem will be automatically resolved as long as the system remains connected to the internet.
The affected versions include:
- Windows 10 version 22H2 (Professional, Education, and Enterprise editions) enrolled in the ESU program
- Windows 10 LTSC 2021
- Windows 10 IoT LTSC 2021
For regular users, no manual action is required—once the system connects to the internet, it will automatically download and apply the fix. Enterprise IT administrators, however, may manually install the patch KB5066791_251020_20401_KIR if necessary.
