Revamped "Start" Menu Interface
Windows 11 does not yet natively support setting videos as desktop backgrounds. For years, many users have relied on third-party software to achieve this effect, but Microsoft is finally preparing to bring the feature officially, allowing users to set their favorite videos as dynamic wallpapers.
This functionality is expected to roll out in upcoming updates for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. Current testing indicates that it will require Build 26200 or later, which is still being evaluated within the Windows Insider Preview program.
Enabling a video background will be straightforward: users need only navigate to Settings → Personalization → Background and select a video file. Since the feature is not yet fully activated, no option currently appears in the stable settings interface, but Insider builds already allow video files to be chosen.
The range of supported video formats is extensive, including .mp4, .m4v, .mov, .wmv, .avi, .mkv, and .webm. Given that most videos are distributed as .mp4 or .webm, setting them as desktop wallpapers will be simple and widely compatible.

On laptops, however, looping a video as a desktop background is likely to increase power consumption. It is therefore expected that Microsoft will add energy-related warnings once the feature is officially launched—for instance, pausing video playback automatically when Battery Saver mode is enabled.
