At Google I/O 2025, Google unveiled its collaborative smart glasses project with XREAL, dubbed “Project Aura.” More recently, XREAL CEO Chi Xu confirmed during an event in Japan that the device is slated for launch in the Japanese market in 2026.
Revealed at this year’s Google I/O, “Project Aura” adopts a form factor reminiscent of conventional eyewear. It is powered by a Qualcomm processor and XREAL’s next-generation spatial computing chip, the “XREAL X1S.” The glasses support both Optical See-Through (OST) and Video See-Through (VST) modes and require a smartphone connection to operate. They are fully compatible with the Android XR platform and integrate seamlessly with Google’s Gemini generative AI technology, significantly enhancing augmented reality experiences and interaction capabilities.
Although XREAL originally planned to release “Project Aura” by the end of this year, the launch has been postponed to 2026. The company confirmed that the product will debut simultaneously in both the Japanese and U.S. markets, with further details regarding availability to be officially announced at a later date.
As for potential launches in other international markets, confirmation remains pending at this time.
