Google has once again expanded its “AI Mode” search functionality, introducing the newly enhanced Gemini 2.5 Pro model alongside its Deep Search technology. The update also unveils a new AI-assisted calling service that enables users to inquire about business information via phone, further advancing a search experience centered around generative AI.
This update signifies Google’s increasingly assertive transformation of “AI Mode” into its primary search interaction interface—shifting away from the traditional keyword-driven paradigm toward a more semantically aware, multi-turn conversational assistant capable of proactive service delivery.
At this year’s Google I/O conference, the company had already previewed the integration of Gemini 2.5 Pro with a forthcoming “Deep Think” feature. Now, with this rollout, the “AI Mode” officially incorporates Deep Search, offering richer, semantically guided results tailored to users’ specific intent.
Currently, these advanced features remain exclusive to subscribers of Google AI Pro and AI Ultra.
Meanwhile, Google has also begun introducing the voice calling feature showcased during the I/O conference—codenamed “Project Astra”—into the “AI Mode” service. While accessible to all users for initial trials, subscribers to AI Pro and AI Ultra benefit from significantly higher usage limits.
When searching for local businesses, users will encounter options such as “Ask AI to check the price,” prompting the AI to automatically place a call to inquire about basic information, including business hours, product availability, and pricing.
Although the AI calling feature presently supports only fundamental business inquiries and lacks full multilingual and complex conversational capabilities, Google’s ongoing integration of AI tools into its Search ecosystem signals a strategic pivot from conventional search to AI-powered, interactive assistant-based querying.
As “AI Mode” continues to evolve, the very nature of user interaction with Google Search is poised for a profound transformation.
