At the LlamaCon event, Meta unveiled a standalone application named Meta AI, designed to offer users direct access to its conversational artificial intelligence capabilities — positioning it as a competitor to services like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. The Meta AI app, following the familiar design language of Meta’s various platforms, seamlessly integrates with users’ personal information and shared posts. It also introduces a dynamic feature called “Discover,” which incorporates elements of social interaction by showcasing prompts previously used by others, enabling users to repurpose those prompts to generate new content.
To safeguard user privacy, the app retains the option for individuals to choose whether or not to share their previously used prompts publicly.
In its U.S. and Canadian editions, the Meta AI app can tailor responses more personally by referencing data users have shared with Meta, including content posted on platforms like Facebook, as well as likes, comments, and other forms of engagement. Importantly, users maintain the right to opt out of sharing this kind of data with the app.
Additionally, English-speaking users in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand can access real-time conversational features within the Meta AI app — functionality akin to that offered by ChatGPT and Gemini. This enables fluid, live interaction with Meta AI, though the feature remains in its early development phase and is still undergoing refinement.
Beyond the standalone application, Meta AI is also available in a web-based version. While the web version does not support real-time conversation, it does offer enhanced image generation tools that allow users to create visuals with varying styles and atmospheres. In select regions, users can even test advanced document editing features and export their work as PDF files.
Furthermore, Meta’s previously released Meta View app — developed in partnership with Ray-Ban for smart glasses — is being phased out in favor of the Meta AI app. The new app will assume control of smart glasses functionality, allowing users to manage device features, interact with Meta AI through voice commands, and access past conversations directly within the app.
Meta AI is now available for download via the Google Play Store and App Store. Users who previously installed the Meta View app can update directly to the new version.
