A wide range of Microsoft products will reach the end of their lifecycle in October 2025. Alongside Windows 10, Microsoft’s relational database application Microsoft Access 2016/2019 will officially lose support on October 14, 2025.
Microsoft Access is a database management system that combines the Microsoft Jet Database Engine with a graphical interface, enabling businesses to create and manage data-driven applications.
Unlike many other database systems, Access offers an intuitive interface designed for ease of use, making it particularly suitable for non-technical users. For years, Microsoft bundled Access with Microsoft Office to encourage widespread adoption.
Access 2016 and 2019 were delivered as part of the Microsoft Office 2016 and 2019 suites. Since those suites themselves will also reach end-of-support on October 14, Access 2016/2019 will expire simultaneously.
Microsoft has clarified that users may continue to run Access 2016/2019 after this date; however, the company will no longer provide feature enhancements or security patches. Even newly discovered vulnerabilities will remain unpatched, and enterprise customers will not be able to purchase extended support.
Continuing to rely on expired versions therefore poses significant security risks. Over time, as unpatched vulnerabilities accumulate, organizations persisting with these editions could face increased exposure to exploitation and attacks.
Microsoft is urging customers—particularly enterprises—to migrate to supported versions such as Access 2021/2024. However, the company more strongly recommends moving to Microsoft 365, where Access is included within the subscription and supported for the full duration of the license term.
