Microsoft has announced that it will provide all university students across the United States with a free one-year subscription to Microsoft 365 Personal. The plan includes the full suite of features, offering 1TB of OneDrive storage along with access to Microsoft Copilot AI applications.
Notably, once the free year ends, students will be able to renew their subscription at half the standard cost. In the U.S., Microsoft 365 Personal is priced at $99.99 annually or $9.99 monthly; with the discount, the renewal fee will be just $50 per year.
While many U.S. universities already partner with Microsoft to distribute Microsoft 365 Education to their students, this promotion is limited exclusively to the Microsoft 365 Personal edition—an account type more likely to remain in long-term use for most individuals.
Eligible U.S. university students can claim this offer by completing identity verification before October 31, 2025. Given the scale of such a giveaway, it is expected that some platforms may soon begin offering low-cost reselling of Microsoft 365 Personal accounts created through this program.
It is worth noting that educational discounts of this nature typically require proper verification. Should any irregularities or missing documentation arise during activation, Microsoft may request additional proof. A recent example can be seen in Google’s AI Pro free subscription package, where users were later required to submit further documents for authentication.
