At OpenAI’s annual developer conference, DevDay, the company unveiled its Apps SDK, a groundbreaking developer toolkit that enables third-party applications to integrate directly into ChatGPT. This innovation transforms the conversational AI from a mere text-based assistant into a dynamic platform capable of operating across a wide range of services.
The first wave of supported applications includes Spotify, Canva, Coursera, Figma, and Zillow, with OpenAI confirming that additional integrations — such as DoorDash, OpenTable, Target, and Uber — will roll out in the coming weeks.
Through the Apps SDK, developers will soon be able to submit their own applications for inclusion within ChatGPT, even establishing paid models, thus fostering a thriving and monetizable ChatGPT ecosystem.
For example, with Spotify, a user can simply type, “Spotify, create a playlist for my Friday night party,” within a ChatGPT conversation. The assistant will prompt the user to link their Spotify account, then curate a playlist tailored to the theme, atmosphere, or mood. Once complete, the system will redirect the user to Spotify’s playback page for immediate listening. Spotify has also stated its intent to further deepen integration and enhance interactivity over time.
A similar demonstration showcased the power of Canva. Users can brainstorm a startup idea directly within ChatGPT — for instance, discussing a concept for a “dog-walking service” — and then seamlessly generate a promotional poster through Canva. This integration allows ChatGPT not only to assist in idea generation but also to translate creativity into tangible design output, signaling the evolution of conversational AI into an era of actionable intelligence.
OpenAI emphasized that the Apps SDK transforms ChatGPT into a true “command hub” capable of interacting with diverse external services. In the near future, users will be able to order food, book rides, design materials, take online courses, or manage schedules — all through ChatGPT. Simply invoking an app by name within the chat will trigger the desired action, with initial account authorization ensuring security and personalized functionality.
Notably, OpenAI is also establishing a submission and review process for developers, with broader third-party application access expected later this year. This initiative will further expand the ChatGPT ecosystem, evolving it from a standalone language model into an integrated AI operating platform, where conversation itself becomes the universal interface for all applications.
As services like Spotify, Canva, and Uber continue to join the ecosystem, ChatGPT is steadily progressing toward the status of a true “super app” — a multifaceted digital assistant that seamlessly connects creativity, lifestyle, and entertainment, redefining the way humans interact with software.
