Perplexity has announced the launch of its new “Email Assistant” service, an AI-powered tool designed to streamline the management of daily email tasks. The assistant can organize inboxes, schedule meetings, and even draft replies, with the aim of helping business and professional users cut down on time-consuming correspondence and focus instead on more critical decision-making.
The feature, however, is not universally accessible. Perplexity has reserved it for subscribers of its premium Max plan, which costs $200 per month. Introduced only in July, the Max plan was initially positioned as a faster, priority-level AI search service. With the addition of the Email Assistant, the value proposition is now more clearly defined, signaling an effort to appeal to enterprises and high-level professionals.
In terms of functionality, the Email Assistant supports both Gmail and Outlook. Users simply forward messages to the dedicated AI mailbox assistant@perplexity.com, and the system carries out instructions accordingly — whether that means tidying the inbox, flagging important correspondence, scheduling meeting slots, or drafting polished replies in an appropriate tone.
Perplexity has also stressed that the AI assistant will not use email content for training purposes. Instead, it adapts to the user’s writing style, ensuring responses feel natural and personalized.
From a product strategy perspective, the service is clearly targeted at professionals willing to pay for efficiency. While the $200 monthly fee may be steep for individuals, executives, entrepreneurs, and business leaders who deal with heavy email volumes could find the productivity gains compelling.
At the same time, the service inevitably raises privacy and security concerns. Although Perplexity pledges not to use emails for training, all correspondence must still pass through its servers to generate responses — an aspect that enterprise customers may scrutinize in terms of data access, compliance, and confidentiality.
The future success of the feature may hinge on its ability to support a wider range of email platforms and to incorporate enterprise-grade security standards, both of which would be critical to broad adoption.
As AI companies race to embed generative tools into everyday workflows, email assistants are poised to become a major battleground. Google and Microsoft have already integrated similar features into their ecosystems. Now, with Perplexity entering the field at the high-end professional tier, the question remains whether the market will embrace this vision of premium, AI-driven email efficiency.
