Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, its latest mobile computing platform designed for entry-level to mid-range devices, delivering incremental yet meaningful upgrades for affordable smartphones and gadgets. Compared with its predecessor, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, this new generation achieves roughly 7% improvements in both CPU and GPU performance, while adding support for higher-resolution displays and enhanced imaging capabilities in low-light conditions.
At its core, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 features the next-generation Kryo CPU, with peak clock speeds reaching 2.7GHz, a modest increase over the previous 2.5GHz. This is paired with an Adreno GPU that offers smoother graphics performance, catering to gaming and multimedia demands.
While the overall performance gains may appear incremental, they are nonetheless significant for devices positioned in the entry and mid-tier segments, elevating the user experience to a higher level.
On the display front, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 introduces support for WFHD+ (2900 x 1300) resolution and refresh rates of up to 144Hz, ensuring that even budget-friendly devices can deliver sharper visuals and fluid motion. This advancement narrows the gap between entry-level models and their premium counterparts, particularly in video entertainment and gaming experiences.
In addition, Qualcomm has extended its Low Light Vision technology—previously exclusive to flagship Snapdragon platforms—to the 7s Gen 4. This enhancement enables users to capture clearer, more detailed images and videos in dimly lit environments. The chipset also supports camera sensors of up to 200 megapixels, further elevating photography capabilities for affordable smartphones.
The platform retains many of its predecessor’s AI-powered features, such as real-time multilingual translation and transcription, and also supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+. This fast-charging technology allows a device to recharge from 0% to 50% in just five minutes, significantly improving everyday convenience.
Although Qualcomm has not yet announced which smartphone brands will adopt the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 first, it is widely expected that companies such as Honor and vivo, both of which have previously integrated Snapdragon 7 series processors, will be among the early adopters.
While the updates may not constitute a dramatic leap, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 underscores Qualcomm’s steady and deliberate strategy in the mid-range market. By progressively enhancing performance, display, and imaging technologies, Qualcomm is enabling entry-level smartphones to inch closer to premium devices, expanding consumer choice and strengthening the appeal of budget-friendly options.
