Samsung data breach
At the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event held in the latter half of the year, Samsung deviated from tradition by forgoing a dramatic “One More Thing” reveal of its rumored tri-fold smartphone. Instead, the company introduced three foldable smartphones, two smartwatches, and a third smartwatch model in a new color variant. However, in an interview with The Korea Times, TM Roh, head of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience division, confirmed that the company aims to unveil its first tri-fold smartphone by the end of 2025—though it may not carry the rumored name “Galaxy G Fold.”
According to Roh, the device is still undergoing refinement to enhance its usability, and its official name has yet to be finalized. He declined to disclose any concrete details regarding its specifications or design.
Previously, market speculation had dubbed Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold device the “Galaxy G Fold,” inspired by the earlier showcased “Flex G” concept. This design features inward-folding displays on both sides, forming a shape reminiscent of the letter “G” when viewed from the bottom. The benefit of such a configuration lies in its ability to shield the inner screen from scratches through inward folding—unlike Huawei’s older “Z”-shaped fold, which exposes the outermost display to potential damage.
Roh’s remarks suggest that Samsung may be considering a more symbolic or innovative name, or perhaps an entirely different form factor for the device. Indeed, the company has already demonstrated a variety of experimental screen-folding designs in public, including panels capable of stretching to dynamically alter screen size.
Meanwhile, in the Chinese market, Shenzhen-based Transsion recently unveiled a concept model named “PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold,” which also adopts a dual inward-folding screen design. Industry observers speculate that Transsion may directly compete with Samsung by offering a more affordable alternative, potentially prompting Samsung to explore differentiated screen technologies to maintain its competitive edge and avoid a pricing war in the foldable device segment.
