In iOS 26 Beta 5, Apple has introduced several enhancements to the AirPods charging case, including proactive low-battery alerts that prompt users to recharge, along with updated LED indicator colors to better communicate the charging status.
User @MiniMalnerd1 discovered a new pop-up animation that accompanies the AirPods charging case, visually explaining the meaning behind each LED color. This interactive guide allows users to easily interpret the charging status based on the indicator light.
According to the animation, a green light signifies that charging is complete, yellow indicates that the case is currently charging, and orange suggests a specific case-related status—though its exact meaning remains unclear. It may possibly appear when the case is open and connected to an iPhone.
One concern raised is the subtlety of the LED colors. While green is generally easy to distinguish, yellow and orange are more similar in hue and can be difficult to differentiate without close inspection.
The pop-up text further notes: “The AirPods charging case now more clearly indicates charging status and AirPods will remind you when it’s time to charge.”
As of now, Apple’s official documentation still references the older indicator scheme, which includes green and amber (yellow). It is expected that a comprehensive update to these documents, detailing all three color states and their meanings, will be released alongside the final version of iOS 26.
