Google has recently announced the integration of its Google Lens feature into YouTube Shorts, allowing users to explore additional information about content featured within the short-form videos.
Initially rolled out in beta, this feature will be available through the YouTube app, with gradual access beginning this week for all users.
While watching a YouTube Short, viewers can tap the screen to pause the video, then select the Google Lens option from the top menu. By drawing a circle or tapping a specific area on the screen, users can prompt Google Lens to identify and retrieve relevant information about the selected content.
During the testing phase, advertisements will not be included; however, once the feature becomes official, Google is expected to leverage it to create additional opportunities for ad exposure. Notably, Shorts that already include YouTube Shopping affiliate links or paid promotional content will not display the Google Lens option.
