In his latest “Power On” dispatch, Bloomberg correspondent Mark Gurman reveals that Apple is poised to unveil the iPhone 17e, a nascent entry-level offering. Slated to succeed the predecessor iPhone 16e released a year prior, this device is expected to retain its aggressive $599 price point while undergoing a profound architectural evolution to align its core specifications with flagship standards. Despite its designation as a “budget-friendly” alternative, the internal constitution of the iPhone 17e suggests a significant departure from typical entry-level limitations.
Gurman posits that the iPhone 17e will be fortified with the A19 Bionic chip—the identical silicon powering the standard iPhone 17—ensuring that its computational prowess rivals that of contemporary high-end handsets. Furthermore, the inclusion of the MagSafe interface addresses a historical deficiency in the entry-level lineup’s peripheral ecosystem. Apple’s strategic objective with the iPhone 17e is ostensibly to penetrate emerging economies, such as China and India, while simultaneously capturing the enterprise procurement market.
While the iPhone 16e garnered a polarized reception due to its constrained photographic capabilities, the iPhone 17e is positioned to be a formidable adversary to Google’s forthcoming Pixel 10a. By pairing the sheer velocity of the A19 chip with the inherent strengths of the iOS ecosystem at a $599 threshold, Apple seeks to capitalize on its burgeoning resurgence in the Asian market—particularly within China—and further solidify its market dominance.
