At this year’s Connect conference, Meta once again reinforced its blueprint for the metaverse, unveiling a suite of AI-powered technologies and tools designed to make virtual worlds more lifelike, interactive, and immersive—narrowing the gap between creation and participation.
At the heart of this vision lies the newly redesigned Horizon Engine, rebuilt from the ground up to deliver finer graphical detail and more efficient computational performance. Complementing it is the launch of Meta Horizon Studio, a creation hub and editor where developers and creators can, with nothing more than simple prompts, instantly generate 3D models, textures, TypeScript code, music, and even skyboxes. Future iterations aim to integrate AI assistants capable of autonomous decision-making, automatically orchestrating tools and optimizing environments to make the creative process faster, more intuitive, and more seamless.
With this update, Meta Horizon Studio now supports over 100 concurrent users within a single scene—five times the previous capacity. Whether hosting massive virtual concerts or exploring new worlds with friends in Horizon Central, participants can enjoy smoother, more dynamic multiplayer experiences.
Meta also introduced the early-access release of Hyperscape Capture. Using only a Quest device, users can scan a room in minutes and transform it into a highly realistic virtual environment. Building on last year’s showcase of Gaussian Splatting and cloud-streaming technologies, this feature brings personalized “digital twin” spaces closer to reality.
On the content front, Meta continues to expand its VR entertainment ecosystem. This fall will see the arrival of major titles such as Marvel’s Deadpool VR, ILM’s Star Wars: Beyond Victory, Resolution Games’ Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked, and nDreams Elevation’s Reach.
The latest Horizon OS (v79) introduces Meta Horizon TV, a new entertainment hub offering films, television, live sports, and music streaming. It also resolves the longstanding “black bar” issue, ensuring media is displayed in its proper aspect ratio, faithfully preserving the creators’ original vision.
Disney+, ESPN, and Hulu are among the streaming platforms joining Horizon TV, while Meta has partnered with Universal Pictures and Blumhouse to deliver immersive horror experiences. In addition, James Cameron’s Lightstorm Vision will debut exclusive 3D footage from Avatar: Fire and Ashes on Horizon TV, with plans to release the full 3D film in the future.
Meta emphasized that the next generation of computing will merge VR, AI, and AR into a unified immersive platform. AI-powered glasses are envisioned as everyday “superpowers,” delivering real-time information while maintaining focus, while AR glasses will overlay digital content directly onto the real world—unlocking new dimensions of daily life and adventure.
