During WWDC 2025, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, confirmed that the company has abandoned its initial approach of “upgrading” the existing Siri framework. Instead, Apple is now constructing a more comprehensive architecture for the virtual assistant. However, no specific timeline for the release was disclosed. According to information obtained by Bloomberg, the revamped Siri experience may not debut until the release of iOS 26.4, expected in the spring of 2026.
In contrast to last year’s WWDC 2024, where Apple enthusiastically showcased the potential of its “Apple Intelligence” initiative—highlighting Siri’s future ability to better understand user intent, perform actions within apps, and interact with on-screen content through computer vision—the past year saw little of this vision materialize. The rollout has so far offered functionality that many users found underwhelming, and broader language support is still not expected until the end of this year. As a result, Apple has faced accusations of misleading marketing.
This year at WWDC 2025, Apple appeared to adopt a more grounded tone. While it did touch on the continued integration of “Apple Intelligence,” the company notably refrained from offering any detailed updates on the next-generation Siri.
Federighi later elaborated that Apple is committed to developing a fundamentally reengineered Siri, designed to meet the company’s exacting standards of quality. He added that the new version will only be introduced once it is fully mature.
Industry observers note that, unlike OpenAI and Google, who continue to race ahead in the development of artificial intelligence, Apple is advancing at its own deliberate pace. While this approach may eventually yield breakthrough AI experiences, Apple’s steadfast commitment to user privacy may also pose unique constraints. Striking the right balance between innovation and privacy preservation remains one of Apple’s most pressing and complex challenges in the AI era.
