In addition to the upcoming satellite features for the iPhone, Bloomberg News has outlined Apple’s ambitious 2026 product roadmap, describing it as “the company’s most pivotal year yet.”
According to Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, Apple is preparing a major overhaul of its MacBook Pro lineup. The highlight will be the introduction of high-end MacBook Pro models equipped with M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, expected to debut between late 2026 and early 2027. These models are rumored to feature OLED displays and, for the first time, touchscreen capability.
Should Apple indeed integrate touch technology into the M6 Pro/Max lineup, it would mark a fundamental strategic shift for the company—one likely influenced by several key factors:
- Market competition: Touch capability has long been standard among high-end Windows laptops, pressuring Apple to respond.
- macOS interface evolution: The 2026 release of macOS is expected to be deeply optimized for touch interaction.
- Ecosystem integration: With the rise of Apple Intelligence, the ability to run iPad apps on Mac, and deeper interaction with visionOS, touch input could become a more intuitive and natural mode of control.
- Product segmentation: The new design will remain exclusive to M6 Pro and M6 Max MacBook Pro models.
Apple is first expected to release MacBook Pro models powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips in early to mid-2026—an evolutionary rather than revolutionary update, retaining the current chassis design.
Later, in late 2026, Apple will introduce an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro featuring the standard M6 chip, though this model will not adopt the new design.
The rumored OLED displays, touch functionality, and slimmer chassis will be exclusive to the M6 Pro and M6 Max variants, launching between late 2026 and early 2027. This strategy clearly aims to widen the gap—in both performance and pricing—between high-end Pro (M Pro/Max) and entry-level Pro (standard M) tiers, echoing the 2016–2019 era when only premium MacBook Pros included the Touch Bar.
Early to Mid-2026:
- M5 MacBook Air
- M5 Pro / M5 Max MacBook Pro
- M5 / M5 Pro Mac mini
- M5 Max / M5 Ultra Mac Studio
Late 2026 – Early 2027 (Major Redesigns):
- M6 14-inch Entry-Level MacBook Pro (late 2026; existing design retained)
- M6 Pro / M6 Max MacBook Pro with OLED display, touchscreen support, and a slimmer body
Fall 2026:
- iPhone 18 Pro (expected to replace Qualcomm’s modem with Apple’s in-house C1 chip)
- First Foldable iPhone
Other 2026 Products:
- OLED iPad mini
- iPhone 17e, A18 iPad (12th Gen), M4 iPad Air
- Next-generation Smart Home Display (with upgraded Siri integration)
- Apple’s first smart glasses (preview version)
Gurman also revisited Apple’s AI ambitions for 2026. Following COO Jeff Williams’ retirement and the merger of Apple Fitness+ into the Health division in October, Apple appears to be laying the groundwork for a new Health+ subscription service launching in 2026.
Health+ will reportedly include a health chatbot, an AI-powered agent designed to monitor users’ wellness metrics. The underperforming Apple Fitness+ is expected to be fully integrated into Health+, creating a more cohesive offering that enhances visibility and strengthens Apple’s growing ecosystem of health and AI-driven services.
