Google has recently introduced a powerful new feature for Canvas, the free interactive workspace built into its Gemini AI assistant, enabling users to automatically generate presentation slides through AI. The feature is designed to help students and professionals quickly create polished presentation materials.
Originally launched in March of this year, Canvas was conceived as a convenient space for users to paste longer texts or code snippets for Gemini to edit, debug, or refine, while also offering a visual interface for app, website, or design-related prompts. The addition of slide generation marks a significant expansion of Canvas’s creative capabilities.
Users can initiate slide creation in two ways:
- By entering a direct prompt — for example: “Create a presentation about traveling in the United Kingdom.”
- By uploading source files — users can provide documents, spreadsheets, or research papers, then instruct Gemini to generate a presentation based on the uploaded content.
The AI-generated presentations include both text and visuals, with Gemini automatically applying themes and selecting contextually relevant images.
Once the initial draft is generated, users can seamlessly export the entire presentation to Google Slides directly from the Gemini app. After export, they can continue to edit, reformat, add new content, or collaborate with teammates in real time.
Google announced that the presentation generation feature will roll out gradually to both personal Google accounts and Google Workspace (Enterprise/Education) users starting today.
Alongside the Canvas upgrade, the latest version of the Gemini app introduces several key enhancements:
- Veo 3.1 integration — users can now create videos with richer textures, smoother camera control, and integrated dialogue and sound.
- Gemini 2.5 Flash update — improved step-by-step guidance on complex topics, better-structured responses, and enhanced comprehension of visual elements in notes or charts.
- LaTeX rendering improvements on the web — formulas can now be easily copied, edited directly within Canvas, and exported as beautifully formatted PDFs.
- Gemini for Google TV — Gemini now functions as a conversational voice assistant, helping users discover shows and offering YouTube-powered contextual answers to spoken queries.
