Pinterest recently announced the introduction of a new AI-powered search and recommendation tool called “Pinterest Assistant.” By analyzing users’ past activities—such as saved Pins, created Boards, and browsing behavior—the assistant delivers highly personalized visual recommendations tailored to individual tastes and interests.
Pinterest emphasized that, unlike traditional search functions which rely on users having a clear objective, Pinterest Assistant excels at handling open-ended queries.
For instance, a user might ask, “What kind of pillows would suit my living room decor?” The AI assistant would then analyze that user’s existing “Living Room Inspiration” board, cross-reference it with content saved by users with similar aesthetics, and generate a set of highly refined, visually relevant suggestions—often surfacing items the user might never have discovered independently.
This new feature places particular emphasis on its multimodal capabilities. The envisioned primary mode of interaction involves activating voice search via the microphone icon in the app. The AI assistant processes the spoken prompt, filters and analyzes Pinterest’s vast library of visual content, and returns the most contextually appropriate recommendations.
According to Pinterest, the experience is designed not only to help users discover new items, but also to make the process feel “closer to how people shop in real life.”
The launch of Pinterest Assistant also places the platform in a unique position amid the ongoing debate over AI-generated content saturation.
In recent months, users have voiced growing frustration over the influx of low-quality, AI-generated “slop content,” which makes it increasingly difficult to find authentic, purchasable products or genuine inspiration. To address this, Pinterest began labeling AI-generated content in May 2025 and, by October, introduced an option allowing users to reduce the visibility of such content in their feeds.
While Pinterest Assistant is not a direct solution to the AI content overflow, it may serve as an effective filter for users weary of manually sifting through digital clutter—helping them navigate the noise and surface truly valuable content more efficiently.
Currently, Pinterest Assistant is available in beta for U.S. users aged 18 and older, with plans to expand access gradually over the coming weeks and months.
