Samsung Joins Google: Inactive Accounts & Data to Be Deleted!

Several cloud storage platforms have previously adopted policies to periodically delete accounts deemed inactive—typically defined as those not logged into for over two years. For such accounts, the platforms would proceed to erase both the account and all associated data.

Samsung has now implemented a similar measure. A Samsung account serves as a gateway to proprietary applications on Samsung Galaxy devices, including but not limited to Galaxy Store, Samsung Health, and Galaxy Wearable. Access to these services requires users to be signed in with their Samsung credentials.

Under Samsung’s updated policy, users must log in to their accounts at least once within a 24-month period. Accounts that show no activity during this time frame will be classified as dormant and subsequently deleted. This policy also applies to auxiliary accounts that have been previously utilized.

Once an account is deleted, all data contained within it will be permanently erased, with no option for recovery. Consequently, users are strongly encouraged to verify the status of their Samsung accounts. Those who no longer intend to use their accounts may opt to deactivate them proactively.

This policy will take effect on July 31, 2025, meaning users should ensure they log in by July 30, 2025, to avoid deletion. Thereafter, a login will be required at least once every 24 months to maintain account validity.

Google introduced a similar policy in 2023, whereby accounts with no login activity for two years would be deleted. Prior to deletion, Google sends two email reminders; however, if no login occurs, the account is ultimately erased.
