Earlier, the servers of Ubisoft’s popular title Rainbow Six Siege were compromised in a hacker attack. Through unknown means, the attackers infiltrated the servers and granted massive amounts of in-game currency and items to large numbers of players, triggering Ubisoft’s anti-cheat system, which subsequently began issuing account bans.
In reality, many of the affected players were entirely innocent. The hackers indiscriminately credited large quantities of currency and items to random player accounts, which led the BattlEye anti-cheat system to interpret this as illicit activity and automatically ban a substantial number of accounts. Even some well-known players were caught up in the wave of suspensions. Once Ubisoft’s human moderation teams identified the root of the issue, they moved to address the attack—temporarily taking the servers offline for maintenance and security checks, and gradually lifting bans on affected accounts. Any abnormal currency and items added during the incident are, however, being removed.
In an official statement, Ubisoft said it would resolve the issue through data rollbacks and conduct comprehensive quality control testing to ensure account integrity and the validity of all changes. Due to the scale and complexity of the work involved, the company cautioned that it could not guarantee a specific timeline for full restoration.
As for the perpetrators, no information has yet emerged. Hackers typically seek financial gain through data theft and extortion, making attacks that simply inflate player accounts with currency and items exceedingly rare. It remains unclear whether any monetary motive was involved.
According to Ubisoft’s official game status page, Rainbow Six Siege is currently undergoing unplanned maintenance across all platforms—including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One—leaving players with little choice but to wait for Ubisoft to complete the rollback process.
