New Edge Browser Features: API Upgrades, Extension Plug-In Improvements
Since its launch, Microsoft has attached great importance to the Edge browser on Windows systems. As a weapon that competes with browser giants Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft has been improving and strengthening it. In a blog post updated this morning in Beijing time, the Microsoft Edge team specifically introduced improvements to the Edge browser in the April update of Windows 10.
Extensions can now be enabled for InPrivate browsing
In previous versions, the Edge browser’s InPrivate mode completely disabled browser extensions. In the April update of Windows 10, you will be able to more easily filter the extensions you want. When the extension is newly installed, the browser will prompt you to allow it to be available in an InPrivate mode; in the browser settings, you can also adjust the expansion related options.
Introducing the Notifications API for extensions
Through the WebExtensions API, Microsoft also introduced the “span” and “split” modes for the browser. In the default “span” mode, you can use browser extensions across InPrivate and non-InPrivate windows. In “split” mode, extensions cannot be used across InPrivate and non-InPrivate windows.
In the new version, Edge Browser Extension will be able to push interactive notifications, including basic messages, progress bars, lists, and more. Developers can also customize the charts, text, buttons, and button icons for these notifications.
