Microsoft is constantly reducing Windows 10 feature update install times
With twice-a-year Windows 10 feature updates, each feature update introduces a number of improvements, optimizations, and new features. However, each feature update is a long upgrade wait for the user, such as the creator update announced in April 2017. The average offline update status reached 82 minutes. In the autumn creator update, Microsoft optimized the installation process, and the offline update time decreased to 51 minutes, an increase of 38%. The upcoming spring creator update will be further optimized.
Joseph Conway, senior project manager of the Microsoft Windows Fundamentals team recently wrote in the blog post: “We’ve done additional work in the upcoming Windows release to move portions of migration operations to the online phase as well. This has resulted in an overall reduction of offline time when installing builds in the Insiders Program to an average of 30 minutes. That’s a reduction of 63% from the Creators Update!”
