Nuance Communications said we are sorry to announce that the Android version of Swype + Dragon is already facing an end to its development. The following is a statement from the Swype product team: Nuance will no longer update the Swype + Dragon keyboard for Android. We regret to leave the keyboard business directly to consumers, but this change is necessary for our focus on developing our AI solutions for direct sales to businesses. We hope you enjoy using Swype and of course we like to work with the Swype community.
Although the company dropped the app, that does not mean Swype will stop working soon. However, it is worth noting that future versions of Android may render them unsupported without updates and fixes. The latest Swype update for Android is released on January 18 and contains only a few minor fixes.
Users looking for Swype alternatives have plenty of keyboard applications to choose from. On Android, Samsung’s own keyboard recently developed rapidly, while Gboard is the same. For others who only want third-party apps, you can use Microsoft’s own SwiftKey, which now offers free themes and regular updates on Android and iOS.
