New Timeline feature for the Windows 10 Photos app opens to all users
A few weeks ago Microsoft launched a photo app for some Windows 10 users. The timeline feature allows users to view scrolling photos based on photo time.
Initially, the company seems to be conducting A/B control tests to collect feedback. After several weeks of testing, the function is now open to all users. The timeline function is similar to the timeline function of the Windows 10 April update, that is, all photo videos are sorted in chronological order.
Looks like Microsoft Photos is rolling out the Timeline feature for your image collection. This showed up several weeks ago and then kind of disappeared without any word. This is on a production device running Windows 10 Version 1803. H/T to @ViktorKalmar1 pic.twitter.com/9ChPwdy7E4

Similar to the iOS system, the album application sorts photos and videos by year, and all photos and videos can be scrolled on the same screen.
For users, the biggest advantage of the timeline is that if you have a large number of photos, it will be easier to look and find photos at specific times. Previously, sorting by file name or size by default would obviously make the ordering of the photos unwieldy. Interested users can now try the timeline.
It should be noted that if the photograph itself has EXIF information with time, this time will be selected. If there is no time information, the import time will be selected.
