Outlook Web Apps for Android and iOS Devices will be retired in May
In 2013, Microsoft launched Outlook Web App (OWA) on the iOS platform and subsequently signed onto the Android platform in 2014. This app primarily provides Office 365 subscribers with additional features such as push notifications, sync contacts, voice activation tasks, and more. Now, Microsoft announced in May 2018 to turn off OWA applications for Android and iOS.
Microsoft said that “For the last several years Microsoft has focused on delivering an effortless user experience and bolstering security in the native Outlook app for iOS and Android devices. We’ve used your feedback to make Outlook an award-winning app and the best way to experience Office 365 features on a mobile device.”
Therefore, Microsoft will help OWA users migrate to Outlook. In April 2018, the app will not be available for download from Google Play or the App Store, and users will be notified of over-exposure to the Outlook application. On May 15, the app will stop working.
“If your organization uses Exchange Server on-premises (that is, hosts its own Exchange servers rather than using Office 365) and you’re using the OWA mobile app, you won’t receive the in-app message. Your administrator should let you know that the OWA mobile apps will stop working on May 15, 2018 and that you can use Outlook for iOS or Outlook for Android instead.”
