Windows 10 adds MSIX packaging format
At the Windows Development Days Summit, Microsoft unexpectedly announced that Windows 10 will introduce a new installation format “MSIX” that can be considered an upgraded version of the existing MSI that supports all program formats. According to reports, MSIX format can accommodate all the Windows installation formats, including Win32 (exe), UWP, WPF, WinForm (Windows Forms), so developers only need a single kind of package to get the container installed, without having to consider different The format also facilitates centralized deployment through corporate networks or Microsoft stores.
In addition, the MSIX format also inherits the various benefits of the APPX format, so it can introduce the UWP universal application features, security, and in fact, can be more secure.
What’s more exciting for developers is that the MSIX format has been a completely open source and the SDK source code has been published on GitHub.
